What Can I Expect?

Each Discovery Evening is unique and covers a different fascinating topic. The event starts with a complimentary hot drink which you can take into the cave with you where our presentations typically take place. Following the talk from our guest speaker, you'll have the opportunity to go further into the cave to explore.

Cave graffiti with raking light

Our debut Discovery Evening featured an exciting ongoing project unfolding right here at Kents Cavern. In 2025, we were delighted to welcome the team from Raking Light back to the caves for the third time as they continued their research into the historic graffiti and inscriptions etched into our ancient walls.

As interest in their findings grew, Linda from Raking Light delivered a fascinating presentation, offering insight into their remarkable discoveries. The evening concluded with a guided exploration to key graffiti sites, allowing our guests to witness these historical markings firsthand and connect with the stories hidden within the cave walls.

Agatha Christie - Adventurer

As part of our World Book Day celebrations we hosted a Discovery Evening which paid tribute to Agatha Christie and her adventurous spirit. In this talk, Matt Newbury, Creative Director of the Agatha Christie Festival, looked at how this bold and daring side to her character continued throughout her life, especially as part of her remarkable international travels. He also mentioned about how many of these extraordinary experiences fed into her books and plays, revealing an often-unexpected side to her character.

The setting of Kents Cavern was particularly apt for this fascinating talk, as it features in one of her most famous adventure stories, The Man in the Brown Suit.
