What is Flint Knapping?
Flint knapping is the prehistoric technique of shaping stone tools by striking flint or similar rocks to create sharp edges. This process was essential for early humans, allowing them to craft weapons, cutting tools, and fire-starting implements for survival.
Why is Flint Knapping Important?
Studying flint knapping helps archaeologists understand how early civilizations lived, hunted, and adapted to their environment. Experimental archaeologists, like Jon Dymond at Kents Cavern, demonstrate this skill to bring history to life, showing how ancient people mastered stone crafting long before metal tools were invented.
