Kents Cavern is a spectacular natural cave on the coast of south Devon, England with an incredible history that began 400 million years ago. The cave was used by Britain’s first humans including Neanderthals.  Remains of mammoth, woolly rhino and cave bears are found here.

The award-winning attraction, with a café and gift shop, is a short walk from local beaches and the beautiful South West Coast path. Kents Cavern is Britain’s most accessible cave, in an urban setting, we specialise in group visits and welcome all ages into the cave.

Kents Cavern is a gateway for UNESCO's English Riviera Global Geopark in Torquay, the birthplace of Agatha Christie, the World’s most published crime writer.

The tour of the cave gives an amazing insight into Ice Age life and an opportunity to see naturally formed chambers, stunning geological formations and to walk through an underground world that was home to Europe’s first humans.

We're happy to welcome any group all year round - prices start at £10pp*, with some fantastic benefits as well.

  • Free coach parking on site 
  • Tours available - 9:00 to 11:00 and 14:00 - 16:00 all year round, (other times available on request)
  • All groups over 15 get a private tour 
  • Large cafe facility with some fantastic hospitality packages including our popular Tour and Cream Tea Deal

Cream Tea 
Two homemade scones with local clotted cream enjoyed in our cafe overlooking the beautiful Ilsham Valley.

Homemade Soup 
Seasonal soup served with a crusty roll and butter. Optional: Add a sandwich 

Cheese & Wine Tasting
Enjoy a selection of three local cheeses, including our own Cave-Aged Cheddar, alongside crackers, chutneys, foccaccia and a range of other accompaniments. Includes a glass of wine per person.

We're thrilled to present a captivating day trip that explores the stunning highlights of the English Riviera, culminating in a fascinating visit to Kents Cavern. Here, you'll uncover the story of our early human ancestors and delve into the remarkable archaeological discoveries from beneath the surface.

Start off your day with an engaging presentation at your guests' hotel from award winning local tour guide Graham, who will convey fascinating stories of Torquay's past and present. We'll talk about how the town became a fashionable seaside resort and reference the colourful characters that have resided in Torquay.

This will be followed by a 2 hour coach tour* hosted by Graham, visiting Torquay's famous landmarks, whilst enjoying the stunning coastal vistas along the English Riviera. Afterwards, we'll head to Kents Cavern for our cave tour and traditional Devonshire cream tea!
